Some ways to check for roof leaks

As the rain and the snow of winter season comes closer most people have to seriously start thinking about their roof. The roof is a part of your house that people really can’t do without. But really it is the area of the home that is overlooked by everybody. The time reallly when people finally realize it is when there is a repair that needs to be fixed or it needs to be replaced. But with winter quickly coming it wouldn’t be wise for people to wait for that.So here are a few things you can do to check to make sure your roof isn’t leaking.

The first thing you have to be able to know is whether the spot was caused by condensation or a leak.  We get calls all the time for my San Diego roofing company for people who think they have a leak. But the moment we do get out there what we see is that it was a condensation stain instead of a leak. The simple way to tell on whether or not it is condensation is condensation doesn’t have a design.  On the other hand a true leak will be circular.  So if you see a circular spot you have a leak.

The parts of the roof you want to check next are some weak points on your roof.  Places like by chimneys are a known weak spot and it tends to leak there.  In our roofing Oceanside service we always check those areas because it is so common that it leaks there. It is a fix that is really easy to do because all you have to do is seal that area.

Last thing you want to do is look at the areas that have been penetrated by a nail.A lot of times the people who put the roof in when they are nailing it in, those very nail spots aren’t sealed.  This is the cause of leaks that we find in my Rancho Bernardo roofing service.  This is also a very easy fix by just finding the spot then sealing it.

So those are some of the methods you can use to be sure you don’t have any roof leaks this coming winter.
