Aluminium is very lightweight and when it is alloyed with steel or magnesium you get a very light rim that improves the steering ability of the automobile. Chrome rims are more expensive than wheels with a silver finish as the electroplating process takes much longer and is more involved. Many of people also like black chrome wheels.

Taking Care of Alloy Rims

Preserve your chrome plated rims and other parts by using vehicle cleaner in water and cleaning with a sponge. Rinse off well and dry with a soft cloth. If necessary use a cleaner specifically made for chrome as cleaners not made for chrome can cause damage. Once you have dried them add a protecting layer of car polish. Any dust or grime will adhere to the wax instead of the chrome and you will find cleaning is easier. Avoid using car washes as detergents used may damage the chrome or have been known to cause scratching. Only use products that are produced to be used on chrome as others are formulated with acids which will damage the surface.

Chrome rims are available all over the place as well as online and you can find cheap chrome rims with no trouble. Make sure the ones you obtain, even if they are inexpensive, are good quality so that they last and do not lose their shine after a short time of use. Chrome rims should stay looking good for years if you take good care of them.
