With economies all over the world suffering from the economic down turn. Now is the time to get a good deal on that sub compact that you need to get through these tuff economic times. Toyota is offering huge incentives on their Corolla, Honda is offering a zero down payment (for all qualified buyers) and KIA will almost pay you to take there’s.

The Toyota Corolla Shop Manual has a long history with the United States, it’s celebrates 40 years of selling a cheap, no frills car, with great gas mileage this year. The Corolla today is base priced at fifteen thousand dollars and tops out at twenty thousand dollars for the XRS. The big difference between the fifteen thousand dollar Corolla and the twenty thousand dollar Corolla is the 1.8L 132hp engine and the 2.4L 158 hp engine offered in the XRS. You loose 5mpg both highway and city dropping from 34 mpg highway to 29 mpg and from 27 mpg city to 22 mpg which kind of defeats the purpose of buying the Toyota Corolla in the first place.

The Honda Civic Haynes Repair Manual has been offered in the United States for thirty five years. In that time it has evolved from a tin can on wheels to an affordable, reliable, easy to maintain car with a great resale value. Today’s Honda Civic offers a wide range of models ranging in price from fifteen thousand dollars to just over twenty five thousand dollars. Twenty five thousand dollars may seem steep for a little four banger but tuners all over the world crave this car. Slap a computer chip, exhaust system, and rims on this car and you have yourself a car any teenager would love to have. The basic DX Coupe 5-Spd Mt comes standard as a five door hatch back with a 5 speed manual transmission, power windows, driver and passenger side airbags, and ABS brakes as standard. The amenities offered in the GX 5-Spd AT are almost like what is offered in a luxury sedan leather seating, traction control, ABS breaks, sunroof, power door locks, and much more. There are so many options and models offered by Honda that you can pretty much walk into a Honda dealership and ask them for any variation in options and colors that you can think of and they will be able to deliver it.

The KIA Spectra Repair Manual is Korea’s answer to Japans stronghold on the sub compact market. It is priced to sell with a base price of less then thirteen thousand dollars and only fifteen thousand dollars for the high end SX. It does have an appeal if for no other reason then it is cheap. The problem is it is just that cheap, the pedal needs to be held to the floor to stay with the flow of traffic, the automatic transmission never shifts correctly giving you a jerky ride and the interior falls apart in the heat. The safety record should be the most concerning rating 2 out of 5 stars in driver to driver collision. Making it the lowest rated car of the three sub compact cars reviewed here. It is not all bad though the 2.0L 138hp engine comes very highly rated getting high marks for reliability, ease of maintenance and overall performance.

When purchasing any of these three cars keep in mind that car dealerships all over the world are willing to make huge concessions to sell you a car and recommend an automotive repair manual. Your goal price should be as close to base invoice price as possible. For the Toyota Corolla the base invoice price is $14,352 for the Honda Civic the base invoice price is $13,982 and for the KIA Spectra it is $12,965. Good luck and happy car shopping.

Nissan offers the G35 as an entry level sport compact vehicle but it is called the Infiniti, guess they thought this would make them look more distinguished. One thing that the Acura TL has going for it is the 6 cylinder 300 hp engine that can put you back in your seat if you punch on the gas. The Acura TL sells new for thirty five thousand dollars but Acura is offering huge incentives on their 2009 models with zero money down and zero percent interest for forty eight months.

The Mercedes Benz C Class Haynes Repair Manual is a great or rather one of the best entry level luxury sedans on the market. The all new redesigned Mercedes C class has hit the mark with consumers, this beautiful machine is probably the nicest looking car Mercedes has ever produced. All the usual high marks are given to the C class for safety, reliability, and performance but the interior is a little on the basic side and is not as luxurious as you the consumer would expect from Mercedes. The Mercedes C class retails new for thirty two thousand dollars for the basic upwards of fifty five thousand dollars for the top end model. But if you are going to buy a new 2009 Mercedes C class you should be aware that Mercedes is offering base invoice pricing if you negotiate with them at the dealership.

If you are going to buy a new model 2009 luxury car make sure you do not settle for anything more then the base invoice price. Every automaker in the world is suffering from the economic down turn and they all are trying to sell, sell, sell. If you more interested in a used model be sure to bring a mechanic and your Acura Repair Manual with you because this $100 can save you thousands shortly down the road.

Fiero – Mid-engine sport two-seater built for Pontiac in the go-go 80s.  GM reached into their parts bin and took out Chevette and other components to form this small roadster.

Firebird – It does not need to be said that this’pony’ automobile is sorely missed.  The excellent news is that it could be back when the 2009 model year rolls around.

Firefly – Twin to the Geo Metro, the Firefly was Pontiac’s 3 cylinder captive import of the late eighties to mid nineties.

G6 – Current compact model in Pontiac’s arsenal available in rakish coupe or sporty sedan.

Grand Am — With its 1973 debut, the Grand Am quickly became the division’s mid-range performance auto.  Quit in 2005 with a number of other Pontiac model names.

Grand Prix – hidden tail lights and a concave back window marked the Grand Prix’s 1963 debut.  The car has survived GM’s model name shake out and today’s car is a medium sized, front wheel drive sports sedan.

GTO – Introduced in 1967, the GTO was a true coupe turned sports car.  Eliminated in the 1970s, the GTO is back thanks to GM’s Australian division, Holden.  Rear wheel drive and a gigantic V8 too.

LeMans – Originally a tempest model, the LeMans became its own model once the storm name was quit in the 1970s.  Stood down in the mid 1990s after a cheap Korean automobile was allowed to carry its name.  Sheesh!

Montana — A minivan for Pontiac, if not for the ages.

Parisienne – during the 1980s Pontiac needed a version of the Chevrolet Caprice.  This full sized, rear wheel drive sedan filled up the bill.

Phoenix – Part of GM’s'X cars’ of compact import fighting vehicles introduced during 1979 as a 1980 model.

Sunbird – nothing except a rebadged Chevy Cavalier. 

Sunfire – Compact coupe quit in 2005 as an element of, you guessed, GM’s model restructuring.

Sunrunner – nothing apart from a rebadged Geo/Chevy Tracker.

Tempest – From the early sixties until the early seventies, the term’muscle car’ befit this hot coupe.  Especially nice as a convertible!

Trans Sport – hideous looking minivan that debuted in the early 1990s.  Mercifully replaced years later by the Montana.

Vibe – A now produced compact 5 door sport truck ; cousin to the Toyota Matrix. 

So, there you have it.  At least another half dozen models were left out from this period of time and many models that dated right back to the division’s founding as a part of the Oakland Automobile Company in 1926.  Pontiac excitementhave you caught it yet?

There aren’t many cars out there that are worth more than a quarter of a million dollars, but if one were to judge based on appearances alone, then the 2009 Aston Martin DBS would most certainly be one of them.The car is as elegant as James Bond would like to have it. 

The 2009 DBS better be pretty though, because it will set prospective buyers back between two hundred and seventy and three hundred thousand dollars, but just as with any Aston Martin, there is more to this car than just a pretty face… 

Beneath the hood of this beautiful specimen sits one powerhouse of an engine – a 5.9 liter V12, churning a whooping 510hp to move the car just past the 190mph top speed.Acceleration for the DBS is an elegant 4.3 seconds. 

The DBS’s initial launch into the automotive world was just eighteen short months ago, its beauty and performance took the driving world by storm then and Aston Martin hasn’t changed a whole lot since the original – they didn’t have to. 

New for the second incarnation are the diamond turned wheels which, aside from being absolutely stunning, manage to take an impressive four and a half pounds of weight off per wheel – that coupled with a portion of the body being made from carbon make this version almost two hundred pounds lighter than the DB9 which it is partially patterned after. 

The 2009 version also has an option for two rear bucket seats where the original just had a modest amount of storage behind the front seats. This at least helps to give the impression that Aston Martin also had the family man in mind when slightly retooling this incredible piece of machinery, though I don’t know a whole lot of people with two children, aside from professional athletes and movie/television stars who could afford to plunk down three hundred thousand for an everyday travel vehicle. 

For drivers, like myself, who would rather be immersed in their favorite music than hearing the roar of the massive 510 horsepower V12 engine rumbling beneath the hood, the 2009 DBS comes with an absolutely out of this world sound system – a ten speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system that is truly capable of making ears bleed should you have the desire. 

The 2009 DBS still uses the space age form of entry that every one fell in love with from the original – the ECU or “Emotion Control Unit” in lieu of using the more traditional keyed form or automobile entry. 

If you have more than a quarter of a million dollars to spend on your next vehicle and are still having doubts about the Aston Martin DBS, ask yourself this – if it was good enough for James Bond to use (and destroy) not once, but twice how could it not be good enough for you.
