And this month, the Ford Focus Coupe Cabriolet would be making its debut in the Great Britain at the Brit Global Motor Show.

Ford Bronco II Design Flaws

Sold between the years 1984 to 1990, the Ford Bronco II was built and manufactured to be a compact sport utility vehicle. It was actually built to be a compact complement of the full sized Ford Bronco. It was also centered in order to be the direct competitor to the Chevrolet S 10 Blazer and the Jeep Cherokee.

This car held a 94 inch wheelbase that was very similar to the Volkswagen Beetle. The mechanical parts were very much similar to the Ford Ranger pickup’s mechanical parts. The 1st models came out supplied with a 2.8 litre V6 engine which was very much similar to the 2.8 liter engine that was used in the Ford autos marketed and sold in Europe. Come the year 1986, the Ford Bronco II came introduced with a 2.9 liter EFI V6. It’s been announced this engine was condemned from the beginning with design failings. This engine frequently suffered from premature cylinder head failure and loss of valve train lubrication as well. This happened when the valve train lubrication wasn’t rigorously maintained. However, Ford was ready to see this failing right away and it acted upon changing or correcting this flaw in the soonest time possible. Come 1989, this error was already corrected. However, the Ford Bronco II had already accumulated unattractive comments and a not so good reputation to potential buyers. These buyers were concerned about the security of this auto.

This vehicle has also been reputed to tip over during some scenarios due to the high center of balance. Later on in 1991, the Ford Bronco II platform underwent a major redesign and was released to be wider and longer. However, despite the bad kind of reputation that this vehicle received, the Ford Bronco II still continued to be actively sought by customers and patrons who are looking for a cheap, solid and compact sports use vehicle. Of course, these buyers would have to do some work on it but the replacement parts and engine could be found easily for the Ford Bronco II could have an engine swap with the Ford Ranger.

The Best Saloon Car Available

The Ford Mondeo has firmly planted itself into the nation’s collective conscience as the stylish saloon of choice. The Ford Mondeo has been through a variety of image changes and has quickly evolved from a rather dumpy looking motorway car, to a sporty, sleek and aesthetically pleasing saloon. I have slight concerns that I am slightly concerned would prevent me from investing in a brand new Ford Mondeo.

Firstly, I like to think of myself as something of an individual. I enjoy wearing clothes that few other people have, listening to music that is not enjoyed by the entire population and owning cars that have a bit more character and individuality behind them than the Mondeo does. It has to be said that if you leave your home for any period of time, you can almost guarantee you will see at least one Ford Mondeo making its way past you.

Secondly, I question whether the Ford Mondeo has the ilk of luxuriousness that I would require from my car choice. I’m not referring to gadgets such as sat nav or video screens in the rears of the seats; I am talking about that masterly comfort and smooth driving performance that you only get from a certain pedigree of car.

When I was looking for a brand new Saloon car I definitely had these concerns in mind, but decided to heed the advice of the majority of automotive critics and give the Ford Mondeo a fair trial. I decided to visit my nearest Ford Online dealership to set up the test drive.

As it happens I am amazingly happy that I gave the Mondeo a test drive, as it proved itself to be something of a revelation. The comfort of the drive was similar to that of a car twice the Mondeo’s value. It truly is the King of Saloon models.

The Best Saloon Ever?

When it comes to choosing the best possible Saloon Cars, most car magazines or other Automotive mediums will inevitably point you in the direction of one particular make and model; the Ford Mondeo. The Ford Mondeo has been a consistent and popular seller since its release in 1993. Back then it was the replacement for the relatively popular Ford Sierra, which had been a good flagship model for Ford in the company car sector, but was beginning to lose its seemingly indestructible edge on the competiton. The Ford Mondeo was meant to reinvigorate the design and bring a more ‘executive’ edge to the manufacturer who were beginning to run out of ideas.

The Mondeo then began a 20+ year domination over the saloon car market, which is yet to dissipate thanks to Ford’s constantly evolving design ethic. The current design falls into Ford’s new ‘Kinetic’ design aesthetic, which is meant to represent the vehicle’s movement even when it is a still as imaginable. This sounds a little bit ‘clichéd’ as far as design briefs go, but in practice it really works and looks rather amazing.

In a rather crude experiment to see how the Ford Mondeo has evolved over time, I have spent the week comparing an original Mark 1 Mondeo to the new Mark 4 edition. Obviously first impressions are vastly differing; the Mk1 looks rather too much like the old Sierra for my liking, but is definitely a step in the right direction. In contrast, the MK4 looks like it was designed by Mercedes during a cloning of an SLK experiment gone wrong. In short, it looks great.

The performance test confirms the new edition’s clear dominance over the past incumbent. In a one lap time trial race of a 3.2 mile race track, there was a clear winner despite both cars having 2.Ltr Petrol Engines. As if you hadn’t guessed, the MK 4 won by a eyebrow raisingly long 6.3 seconds.

So what we can agree on is that the Ford Mondeo’s star is definitely still in its ascendency. Whether it will maintain its positive trajectory rather depends on Ford and the often fickle buying public.

Debating The Great Car Issue

It is quite a challenge to determine what makes a truly great car. I spent about 2 hours this morning arguing with my colleagues about the three top categories for choosing a car. Eventually we settled on value for money, engine performance and reliability. We all agreed there were other factors to take into account (practicality, top speed, gadgets) but the chosen three seemed most urgent.

Value for money relates directly to the quality of car you get for money paid. The chances are stacked against you getting a sporty car, with a V8 engine and all the safety certification in the world for less than £20,000, but if you can do it that would represent fantastic value for money. Engine performance takes into account not only BHP/torque and speed, but also issues such as economy issues (how much it costs to run) and ecology issues (CO2 Emissions). Finally, reliability became the third point to our holy trinity of what makes a truly great car, after all it doesn’t matter how superb your car is, if it breaks down every 30 miles or so it is pretty much worthless.

When applying these categorisations to our immense knowledge of cars, one particular model kept being mentioned. Every time it was mentioned we dismissed it as a considerably unappealing idea, but the more you think about it the more it begins to make sense. The model in question was the Ford Mondeo.

I know what you’re thinking; you’re thinking ‘how can they consider the Ford Mondeo to be a GREAT car?’ Well, that’s precisely why we dismissed it at first, but the Ford Mondeo unequivocally does tick all the boxes.

When it comes to Ford, no one does value for money quite as well as them. Engine performance on the Mondeo is terrific with awesome levels of power and economy. As far as reliability goes, the Ford Mondeo has one of the greatest names in the car business. See if you can think of anything to rival the Ford Mondeo in these categories. It’s a pretty superb game!

My Ford Dilemma

Every single driver will obviously have differing categories and stipulations regarding what makes an awesome car. Some will be of the opinion that power, speed and performance are the mark of a truly great car and suggest that the Bugatti Veyron or something similar is the perfect car. Others will hold esteem in a more aesthetic nature and put forward cars such as the Bentley Continental and the Aston Martin Vanquish as the real purveyors of automotive perfection. I have always held the opinion that the truly wonderful cars don't focus on one thing, but try to encapsulate the needs and desires of everyone into their designs and engineering. This is precisely why my favourite car is the brand new Ford Focus.

Now you may be laughing or deriding me for saying that I would rather own a Ford Focus than a Pagani Zonda or a Koenigsegg, but that simply isn’t true. I would love to own one of the many supercars or hypercars that are available on the market and if you gave me £1 Million to spend on a car I wouldn’t disappoint you. All I am trying to say that in a practical world the new Ford Focus is a lot less likely to frustrate you than a supercar. Let me explain.

First of all you have fuel efficiency to take into consideration. Ford have become synonymous with engineering which seems to sip very frugally at the fuel reserves and the Focus is no different. With economical driving disciplines in place it is possible to get supermini standard fuel economy from a Ford Focus. This leaves you with more money in your wallet and having to spend less time stood at the pumps, refilling every few hours.

Secondly the issue of practicality has to be addressed. Everybody has to do a weekly shop, or pick up comestible goods from town or the city centre. In a Ford Focus this is most definitely a painless task. Parking is very easy, boot space is magnificent and thanks to the Ford Focus’ ‘understated’ beauty, it won’t attract vandals to pull it to bits. Adversely, if you choose to do your food shopping in your new Ferrari 599, you are going to find parking excruciatingly difficult, discover you only have the luggage space to fit a small punnet of Satsumas and the vandals will tear your Ferrari badge and wing mirrors off before you can even say “hands off my car!”

I will admit, owning a supercar would be a dream come true, I have a very soft spot for the Lamborghini Gallardo myself, but in an increasingly practical world, it becomes almost impossible to think of an apt time to use one. With the cost of petrol, the congestion on the roads and the increasing number of uninsured drivers on the road, why would any drive for pleasure?

Take my advice and get the best practical car money can buy; the brand new Ford Focus. You will get great performance and fantastic economy, just don’t expect 0-60 in under three and a half seconds.

Ford is Dumb – No Fiesta for the US

With the new green movement, it would seem Ford has made the right car in the Fiesta. It is a small vehicle that can fit up to 5 people and achieve astronomical fuel economy numbers. It seems like the perfect car the only negative thing is, it’s not sold in the US.

The Fiesta has what it take to compete with other fuel efficient cars in the US, too bad Ford will only sell it across the pond. The only reason the President of Ford gave for not selling this car in America is tha it would be too pricey to import.

The top arguement for not selling the Fiesta on US soil is that American’s detest diesel fuel. We ger stateside still have the view that diesels are gross polluters according to Ford.

Current vehicles powered by diesel have such advanced clean technology that they are 30% more efficient while emitting less harmful pollutants. So why can’t the US have this 65mpg car on our market? Ford feels like the America’s will not buy diesel cars. The Fiesta ECOnetic is comparable to European diesels but Ford can’t make a business case for bringing the car to the US.

Further more, this vehicle is manufacturered in England and would cost a pretty penny to be shipped overseas to the US.The main problem is will American’s ever see Diesel as an alternative to regular gas, enought so that car makers will make a profit on Diesel cars?  All Ford needs to do it look towards Volkswagen and their TDi Jetta. If the Fiesta were to come to America, it would cost about as much as the Jetta TDi, get much better gas mileage, and become an acclaimed clean car.  Ford is missing out on all this publicity the Jetta is enjoying.

Find A Great Used Ford

Financially-speaking, things have taken a rather sharp turn for the worst haven’t they? With the annual financial budget announced recently and the scurrilous promises of politicians that we will drag our way out of the financial mess, it seems that the bubble has finally burst on the globally-held capitalist paradigm. However, we all still need to operate our daily routines despite the gloomy cloud of recession hanging over our heads. One of the most costly outgoings any individual or family have is likely to be buying cars. We all need to drive them and we all need to buy them, but when spare money is scarce and the risks of heavy investment are high, how do you go about buying a car?

The answer is to buy a used car. The used car market has long-since shook-off the shackles of being a shark-infested market and has become considerably more consumer friendly over the past decade. Out of the myriad of car manufacturers out there, I would highly recommend Ford as a paean of reliability, style and performance.

Depending on your requirements, there are a variety of used Ford models to choose from. For the new or young driver, rarely deviating from the A-to-B driving route of home-to-college, the Ford Ka is a perfect example of cost-effective yet stylish motoring. For the more serious drivers amongst us, the Used Ford Fiesta represents a great choice of punchy engines, stylish body work and reliable engineering.

I could go on, but I feel it is best that if you are looking for a Used Ford, you pop down to your local Ford Dealership and have a look for yourself. As a recent customer myself, I cannot stress how important it is to find a reputable dealer and go to the dealership armed with questions and queries. Make sure they can find the right Used Ford for you.

The Amazing New Ford Ka

So what’s the cheapest new Ford money can buy?  Pat on the back if you answered Ford Ka, shake of the head if you didn’t (the answers even in the article title!)  Yes after a staggering 13 years, the Ka is still going strong, but now it’s had a makeover…

To coin a well ploughed phrase ‘if it ain’t broke don’t fix it’ and to be honest despite its advancing years the old Ka didn’t look dated and still drove the wheels off the competition.I used to drive the Ka when I didn’t fancy taking the bus and always found it a riot, with the 1.3 litre engine pulling a car that weighed as much as a bag of sugar along at a fair pace.  Even though it was bubble shaped it still handled well, even if the skinny tyres started to let go if you were overeager.

It was a fashion accessory as much as a car, the type of item you’d find sticking its head out of a handbag rather than being topped up with oil.It was a cheap Ford too with new ones starting from an incredible £4,995.  Yes there was painted metal on the inside of the doors rather than sumptuous leather and ok the gear stick just stuck out of the floor like a van, with no attempted aesthetics, but it had charm.

So when I tell you the new Ka is a million miles away from this you’d be right to start worrying.  The first thing that strikes you is how grown up the new version is.  It’s still very funky but is essentially a Ford Fiesta that has been put in the wash on too hot a temperature.  This however is no bad thing as the new Fiesta is not only a great drive, but a brilliantly styled vehicle.  The Ka isn’t quite as pretty although without my glasses on I couldn’t tell the difference so it can’t be too bad.

To drive, the car is very similar to the new Fiat 500 – in fact it’s the same.  The reason for this is quite simple really; both the Ka and 500 are built in the same factory in Poland using the same parts. That’s right, the new Ford Ka isn’t a completely new design after all.Don’t despair though as partnerships are not necessarily a terrible thing, just look at Starsky and Hutch, Tango and Cash or…erm…K-9 and John Belushi.  The 500 is a hoot to drive and therefore so is the Ka, with it feeling every bit as nippy and fun around the city as a small car should be.

The interior is a massive improvement on the outgoing car, including a space-age centre console finished in silver and matching art deco door handles.Even the gear stick now looks good as it protrudes from the dashboard, easily to hand.  The seats are firm but hold you in place well and the driving position is good unless you’re over six foot.  When you consider the majority of Ka ownership is women I don’t think this will be an issue.

One thing that will be however are the headlights.  For all the good in the rest of the car, it must be pointed out that they are dimmer than an asbo child with a pea for a brain.  On normal beam I had to keep checking they were on, when I switched to full beam the situation got worse as oncoming traffic kept flashing and blinding me to say my lights were too bright, yet the switch to full beam made no discernable difference from the driving seat.  I had a similar problem with my current car and bought some high powered (but legal) replacement bulbs that have improved things greatly.  I suggest this is the first accessory you buy for the new Ka.

I feel I’ve put a dampener on the new Ka, but for it to remain a ‘cheap Ford’ in the current economic climate, GM had to be sensible and build it in collaboration with Fiat and unfortunately the headlights have slipped through the net.  No matter, the rest of the car is just as good (with a far superior interior) to the old Ka, just with a more grown up feel that does make the oldie look a tad dated when parked next to each other.  The 1.2 litre Zetec version costs £9,295 and returns an impressive 55.4mpg, resulting in a measly road tax cost of £35 for the year.

Just think with all that money you’ll save you can buy as many replacement bulbs as you like.

New Ford Fiesta

If you are looking for a brand new car, why not try a new Ford Fiesta? The new version of the Fiesta has been released to critical acclaim and has sold like hot cakes. After a successful unveiling at various international car shows, the Ford Fiesta started gaining critical attention. Upon its release it didn’t disappoint. What has gained the most of the media attention are the Fiesta’s bold and sporty new looks. The previous Fiesta looked like a slightly scaled down Ford Focus, where as the new fiesta is a complete new entity on its own.

The engine and interior is fairly similar to the previous models. That isn’t a bad thing though; the Fiesta has always been a comfortable place to be when driving. There is also the added bonus of sat-nav, Bluetooth and MP3 Connectivity in some of the Fiesta’s various higher-end trim specifications. The engines are also fairly similar to previous Fiesta incumbents, the 1.25 Litre petrol option being the standard choice amongst the public.

As far as drive quality goes, the Ford Fiesta is simply perfect for its price range. The lightness of steering and eagerness of the engine make this a very enjoyable car to drive, whether you are in the city or motorway. It is, however, at its best when cruising through the city streets, looking and handling confident and assured amongst the various challenges with urban driving.

As there are various models and trims to choose from, recommending the right Fiesta is a hard decision to make. There isn’t a world of performance difference between many of the models, other than slightly more powerful engines. I would recommend that as this is a budget supermini, you keep the spec simple and keep costs down. You will still experience a fantastic drive and one far superior to the Fiesta’s competition.

Test drive a brand new Ford Fiesta today and you will physically feel its superiority in comparison to the other superminis on the market.
