The ins and outs of van leasing and contract hire
It would be a good idea to define the term ‘leasing’ before going into any further detail on van or commercial van leasing. The terms home lease, land lease and car lease may well be familiar expressions to potential renters. A lease is a type of contract that actually defines how long you can use a property that you are renting and also how much you have to pay for it. The agreement is in writing between the owner and the tenant, and allows the tenant to pay rent to the owner and live in the property.
Now the term commercial van leasing can easily be understood. The meaning is that a customer would use a vehicle for an agreed time period, and pays the cost of the time used. Van leasing has become a viable business proposition, as it can deliver monthly returns that are attractive. What do vehicle owners do, they rent the vehicle out and receive decent sums of money on a monthly basis from each unit. The revenue earned by many companies is derived from vehicle rental. Normally there are two different types of lease being offered, ’straight’ or ‘purchase’ leasing.
When taking out a ’straight lease’, the customer is getting a van lease that enables them to return it after a given time period. On the other hand, ‘purchase lease’ gives on an option to buy the van at the end of the lease term. With this method it is easier to give regular monthly payments, than be expected to find a large amount to put down on a deal. So purchase lease doesn’t burden the buyer who gets the van at the end of the deal.
A van lease can be advantageous in several different ways for a customer. Now a day most of companies who do this kind of business offer different packages along with van leasing. Most of the packages include maintenance and breakdown cover. If the vehicle breaksdown, the leasing firm are required by law to fix it, taking away the problem for the customer. And also the leasing company is responsible for the risk of depreciation of van; the renter has no need to worry about selling it.
To understand more about the unique leasing offers that we can bring to our customer’s business. Citroen van leasing and Mercedes van leasing are just some of the options out there to choose from.
History of Mercedes Benz
Gottlieb Daimler & Karl Benz set up Mercedes Benz in the 1880’s. It is believed that these two men never in fact met each other! They worked independently of each other and Daimler looked after the racing cars. A dealer from Austria by the name of Emil Jellinek introduced the cars into races and was very successful. He named the cars Mercedes after his daughter.
Eventually Jellinek placed a big order from Daimler and his friend Wilhelm Maybach. They were in agreement that Jellnek could modify some of the designs.
1886 Benz built his first motorized tricycle. The first production car was the Benz Velo in 1894 which took part in the first recorded car race, Rouen to Paris. In 1895 that Benz built his first truck.
It is quoted that Daimler never enjoyed driving! In March 1990 he died leaving complete control of the company to Wilhelm Mayback. By November of that year they had produced a special car, the Mercedes which was lighter and smaller than the average car of the day and was able to reach top speeds off 55 miles per hour.
At the beginning of the First World War both factories had to turn their hand to the production of war materials, although both of them reverted back to the production of cars after the war. With fuel being scarce plus a 15% luxury tax car production was affected badly.
The economy in Germany grew more desperate and a new Mercedes Benz would cost as much as 25 million marks. It is interesting to note that 15 million cars were registered throughout the world in 1923 and over 80% of them from the UK and over half were in fact Fords. The Mercedes was considered to be too costly.
In 1926 a new insignia was made in the shape of a three pointed star wreathed with laurel to signify the merger of Benz and DMG.
In the 1930’s their biggest & most prestigious car was introduced, it was called the 770 Grosser and was powered by an 8 cylinder, 7.six litre engine. The cars in this era produced many wins on the racing circuits.
In 1945 after the war, the plant at Unterturkheim which had been bombed out had to put their car production on hold and produced trailers for bicycles.
However in 1946 the production of cars was started again and by 1949 a diesel version of the 170 was being made which became a best seller.
Alongside all of these elegant car models a number of vans have been produced which are used a great deal for Mercedes van leasing. One such van is the Mercedes Sprinter which has the reputation for being highly reliable and fairly economical.
By the 1990’s Mercedes became the first manufacturer in the world to fit a 4 valve diesel engine into a car. This new engine offers enhanced performance and smoothness which is what the Mercedes name stands for.
New Nissan NV200 Compact Van
Nissan are planning on introducing their new NV200 compact van next week at the Geneva 2009 Auto Show. Nissan have said that the NV200 van has been designed from stage 1 for commercial and people carrier uses.
Because Nissan are aiming for both business and family use, they have designed 3 different versions. The Cargo, designed to carry as much as possible. The plush version is designed to carry up to 7 passengers, and finally there is the Combi version which is the best of both and is designed to carry both passengers and goods.
The NV200 is just over 173 inches long and has side sliding doors, a 78.8 inch loading bay with side hinged doors. The commercial Cargo version is able to carry a maximum cargo volume of 144.7 cubic feet. Nissan have said that the cargo version can carry 2 European standard sized pallets.
As for the Combi version, Nissan have said that the seats cannot be removed, however, they can be folded away to fit extra goods in. Both the 7 seat passenger version and the Combi version come with a top hinged tailgate, also, the Combi version can either come with sliding or hinged side doors.
There are 2 different engine types available, the Nissan Micra’s 1.6 litre aluminium petrol powered engine, or a Renault 1.5 litre diesel powered engine.
The inside of the NV200 comes with a few funky features including a “secret” compartment in the top of the glove box to store electrical items and keep them out of view, although the compartment is not very secret if they tell everyone. You can also have a rear view parking camera which is said to be a first for this van market.
The NV200 is planned for release in its home country, Japan, around summer time and then set for around Europe in autumn, as for North America, Nissan have not yet comfirmed that it will be going on sale there.
However, because of the current recession, will the NV200 be able to bring in enough sales? Certainly people are looking less at buying new vans and cars at the moment, although, maybe the NV200 will prove to be a sucess in the van leasing market. There are also some great Mercedes van leasing offers flying around at the moment, that’s if you really need a van before the NV200.
