Importance of maintaining your car

Today in this ear, everybody has to have a car. There are even some people who need to use planes. But the car to many people is crucial to live in this world. It is able to transport people to their jobs.It can take people when they need to go shopping. It transports people to their schools.  So what I would like to share is the 3 important parts of keeping your car in order.

This is from a perspective from my experience running a San Diego auto repair company. The two areas we need to take a closer look at is the health of your car and your overall safety.

So in regards to safety you can classify all maintenance as being important to safety. But there is a part of your car that is critical to safety.  That part is your brakes. With cars being able to travel much faster than before, good brakes are essential for safety. With more and more people having so many distractions good brakes are a must.By ensuring that your brakes are in good condition you will ensure yourself the ability to stop in time.Brakes that are well taken care of can save money and save lives.  I have seen it first hand running a San Diego brakes shop.

In relation to your car, your car’s overall health will be dependant on how well maintained you keep your car.  Some of the important things to do are oil changes and tuneups. By making sure you always get the oil changed you make sure that your cars runner smoother and longer.By not always changing your oil you run the chance of ruining your engine.

Another important thing you have to do is make sure you get regular tune ups.If you are able to accomplish that, you will keep your car’s major functions running properly.By performing this step you will have a car that runs smoother and cleaner.  If you don’t do this your car will run bad. Some of the results that can happen are a failed smog check.  Most of the cars that fail in my San Diego smog check shop are the ones that didn’t take care of those things.

So in doing these few things what you accomplish is the safety of you and your loved ones and the safety of your car.

Ways to save money through your car

Today most Americans are trying to find ways to save more of their money. With the state our economy is in, you can’t really find fault in them. They try to cut expenses any way possible.Possibly they might start to not go out as much. They aren’t going out and buying things of no use.  But I would like to suggest a way you might not have thought about. That way you can find with your car.

When people think of saving money with their cars, they think of gas.  They think of ways they can spend less on gas.But what I would like to offer is the fact that if you keep your car properly maintained you can save a lot more.  I know this for a fact running my San Diego auto repair company.

With cars in general a lot of people don’t even consider maintaining it. Unfortunately the only time they do think about it, is when it is too late.  They wait for something to go wrong or break down.  But from my experience waiting till that point makes the auto repair more expensive.

Take your brakes for instance. If you can keep your brakes properly maintained you can prevent expensive repairs.  If you don’t you can  have expensive discs you have to repair.  Or you might have  to replace the brake shoes.  By properly using your brakes and maintaining them you can save money.  So take it in to a brake shop like my San Diego brake shop and you can find out if you need to do anything.Things like checking the brake fluid to make sure there is enough.

Or a lot of people won’t take their cars for tuneups.  They let the engine go.They do not do an oil change as frequently as they should. This leads to the engines running bad in your cars.  So bad that it won’t pass a smog test.  From what I have seen running a smog test San Diego shop, if you fail a smog test, this can lead to expensive repairs just to get it to pass.

But if you properly maintain your car you can keep it in good shape. The engine can then run properly and much smoother.Wait longer then you should and you will end up spending a lot more money then expected.

I hope this shows you that maintaining your car is a great way to save money. Spend a little now to save more in the future.

What you need to inspect in a used car

Well the decade of wealth and exuberance is gone. For a lot of Americans excessive items like a new car is a thing of the past. Nowadays when a family needs a new vehicle they often look for used cars. This is made clear by all of the finacial woes the big three car makers are experiencing. There sales have gone way down.

But families will still be needing a form of transportation. But when the money is hard to come by most families are going to have to choose a cheaper option. That alternative choice is a used car.

As a San Diego auto repair shop owner I am asked to inspect some of these used cars.Because when you have decided to buy that used car, you do not want to purchase a lemon. So by taking the time to perform a good inspection, you may avoid costly repairs.

So when inspecting these used cars here are a couple of big things to look for.First thing you have to check is the brakes.  We do San Diego brakes in our shop.  So I know first hand that brake repairs can become expensive. If you buy an auto that the owners didn’t take care of the brakes, that could lead to very expensive repairs. The last thing you want to have to pay for is an entire braking system. So be sure you have good brakes.

Second you want to make sure it is running clean.  In other words can it pass a smog test.  In my business I do smog test in San Diego.  The last thing you want is to purchase a car that will need expensive repairs.Especially if the repairs are going to involve any emmission problems.

If you buy a car that is unable to pass a smog check, that won’t be good.It is a sign of a previous owner not taking care of it.What probably happened is they didn’t do any tuneups or oil changes. These could be the beginning of a lot more issues down the road.

If you just check out these few items you can save money. By not inspecting you can lead yourself into some big repairs. When you need to save money, I am pretty sure you don’t want that.

Ways to have a car last longer

It is a new time and day.  The economy has changed. With it, most Americans have less spending money today as they did before. In regards to the auto industry you are able to witness it.With the big three carmakers always losing money, you have proof that big items just aren’t being bought as much as before.

With that in mind most Americans are going to be forced to keep their car longer.Planning to keep a car for the long haul will require maintenance. The better you are able to keep maintenance on your car will dictate how much longer it will last.  So I would like to offer a couple of tips from my experience owning a San Diego auto repair company.

One of those things that can be so easily passed over is making sure your car runs clean. Why is this important?Because if you aren’t able to keep it running clean you are in danger of failing the smog check.  If you fail a smog test you could be in for some expensive repairs.  I have seen this time and time again from doing smog test San Diego.

All you have to do is make sure you change the oil and oil filter regularly. Also be sure that you are able to get the car in for regular tuneups.

Second thing overlooked is brakes. You don’t really focus your attention on them.  But everybody agrees they are important for safety. But if you are not diligent in caring for them, this will be an expensive repair.  I should know having to charge my clients to replace their brakes at my San Diego brakes shop.

Make certain that when you are using the brakes that you aren’t too hard on them. Be prepared for all your stops and then apply the brakes slowly. Also take care in making sure the brake fluids are at reasonable levels. This can help you save a bunch of money in repairs.

Do these couple of items and you will see a lot money in reparis being saved. When you must keep the cars you own much longer, you will be happy that you did.

How maintaining your vehicle can save you money

In this economy we are in we need every possible way to save money. It won’t take a lot for you to see that a lot of Americans are having a hard time in this economy. But instead of moaning about a lot of things, we can search out other ways to save money.

So I would like to offer some perspective from a San Diego auto repair shop owner. Now you may say to yourself that there will be bias but hear the argument first. After reading this it should be clearer to you that you can save money and that it makes sense.

One of the ways we can save money is to keep our cars longer. In the heyday of this decade when the economy seemed to be so good people traded in cars left and right. They traded in the cars when they got old.So for the most part people just did not even think about having to maintain their car.

Well the way the economy is right now, we don’t have that luxury available anymore.  Most people can’t afford to just go out and get a new car.People now must keep the old ones longer. What it means is you will have to make an effort to maintain their cars.

One of the key maintenance items is making sure your car can pass a smog test.Once you have an older car it will be a required law.  If you don’t pass a smog test, it can turn into expensive repairs.  I know this first hand running my San Diego smog check shop.

There are a few things you might to make certain you are able to pass the test. You can make an effort to keep your car tuned and maintained. You can make certain you change the oil filter and oil.  You can make sure the muffler is in good working order.

This is the area where you may lose some money.  If you fail the smog test you could be in for a lot of money in repairs. So by ensuring that you follow these maintenance tips you will be able to save money.By doing the right things in maintaining your car now you will save yourself from major repairs later.

Don’t forget to also maintain your brakes.  With my experience with our San Diego brakes shop this is important as well. By being sure that you don’t have worn down brake pads can save your disc brakes. Not keeping it maintained can cause very expensive repairs.Follow these tips and you won’t have a problem saving money.

Used Cars and Smog Checks

In the economy we are in, rather than purchasing a new vehicle, a lot of families are going to choose to buy a used car.

With that being the case, there will be a lot of issues concerning finances that go into place when making a used car purchase.

When I say financial considerations, I am not just talking about the sales price.

When you are a family looking to save money the last thing you want to do is buy a used car with extra expenses you weren’t prepared for.  Especially if those extra expenses were not in your budget.

So one of the big things you want to be aware of is smog checks. The last thing you probably did not want to do is make expensive repairs due to a failed smog test.  I have seen too many used cars in my San Diego auto repair business have this happen.

So in buying the used car here are a few things you ought to consider.

Under a 2005 law that was passed, if you have a 1976 vehcile or older, you will not have to ever take a smog check. So if your vehicle is newer than that your car will need to be tested based on state emission laws. You can search about your state by contacting the Bureau
of Automotive repair at (800) 952-5210.

If you live in California and are buying a used car you may need a San Diego smog check. If the car has been sold and registered in California for the first time, you will have to get a smog check.

Other than that, if the vehicle is going into it’s 5th or 7th year, a smog check will need to be done biennially.

If you bought the vehicle in another state but live in California, you will need to find out if the car can pass a smog check.California generally is going to be much stricter.

With it being the case, when purchasing your next car you want to keep that in mind.

Costs for a smog test San Diego generally run between $30 to $80.  But as mentioned above, that is not the big cost.  The big cost is if you need costly repairs.

So when purchasing the used car, make sure you find out if the vehicle has recently passed a smog test.

You don’t want to get any unexpected expenses cropping up all over when the idea was to save money when you bought that used car.

Follow these pieces of advice when making a purchase of a used vehicle and a lot of money will be saved.
