The truth of success or failure with sports

Sports and succeeding in it is a funny thing.  You can have a superb athlete who can’t find success. Then you could have an athlete who is average and yet they succeed. At first glance you can’t seem to explain it.But when you take a closer examination you see the real reason some have success and other fail is the mind.  But why is that?In this article we are going to examine it a little closer.

So why does the mind play such a big factor in sports?  As a San Diego sports psychologist I have been priveleged to see first hand why this is so.First thing you have to realize, the stereotype that thinks of athletes as dumb is far from the truth.Athletes are really some of the smartest people around. And the ones that have the most success are the ones who have learned how to use their mind.

Funny thing a lot of athletes come in needing my anger management San Diego practice.Quite a few times the anger begins because they have failures in sports.  But what I am able to do is turn them around.  The way to turn them around is to show them that their failures are in their mind.  By learning how to use their mind effectively they can achieve tremendous success. It has been shown to be true over and over again.

Once an athlete becomes aware and understands how powerful the mind is, they can become successful.  Most of the time they can achieve tremendous success. It is just like how most things of life are.The mind is so important when it comes to taking action and getting results.  I see it not just in the athletes I deal with but also with families.  The San Diego family therapist practice I run I have used some of the same principles to help families achieve success.Success in learning how to beat the family struggles that might be happening. In life as well as in sports the key to most things is your mind.

Importance of sports psychology

Whether you are an amateur or a professional you should know how important sports psychology is.The mind is so important to succeeding in sports. With the amount of pressure there is to make it, it will require more than athletic talent. It is how good you get yourself ready mentally that will be the important factor.

So if your objective is to succeed in sports you have to come to understand this.  I will be offering my perspective from doing sports psychology in San Diego.Because the moment you understand how critical it is, the faster you will make it.

So what is it that makes it so important?Well it used to be not so pressure packed in sports.  It isn’t just about professional sports either. It can be as pressure packed in a high school environment or sooner.Well accompanying that pressure comes the aspect of the mind. When there wasn’t that pressure, sports was all about fun.It was all about the best athletes dominating. Now you might be the most athletic person, but if you have a weak mind, the pressure will make you fail.

I have watched it happen again and again at the high school sports level. I have done so much teen counseling San Diego I see how not being prepared mentally can set someone up for failure. But for the many who have had counseling and prepartion, they can expect a lot of success.

If a person is prepared for that pressure they can succeed.  By being prepared mentally they can be ready for whatever may come.  I have had many students and athletes come to me needing this guidance in my family therapist San Diego practice. They could be athletes who are very good to the average athletes. With a mind that is ready to compete a person who is an average athlete can have tremendous success against superior competition. While a superior athlete can really bypass the competition with that type of knowledge.

There is no doubt how big the mental part of your game is to the game.By being able to truly grasp that, a good athlete can bypass their competition.
